Oktoberfest will be here before we know it!  One vintage, gorgeous women’s pre-owned 80% Virgin Wool/ 20% Polyacrylic button up sweater.
The label reads “
Trachten
Handarbeit”.
I am not sure of the translation, but the locations listed under this suggests an Austria/Hungary origin. It is heavy, robust with thick earth-tone buttons and shoulder pads that are lightly stitched/attached and would be easily removed, which dates the garment.
It has no pockets.
I am unsure of the sizing, but use the following measurements and compare to a comfortable sweater of your own.
The measurements are of the sweater lying flat in a relaxed state.

Armpit to armpit seam = 21”
·
The shoulder seam to the cuff = 23”
·
The top of the neck to the bottom of the tail or back of the sweater = 30”
Now for the fun part and what I do know.
This European garment is as much a work of art as would be functionally warm and cozy.
The front artwork depicts a Bavarian-like boy and girl out for a walk with a log cabin, trees, and mountains in the background. There is a deer strolling through the meadow. There are delicate colorful flowers knitted into the scenery.
The back scenery is even more striking. In particular, note the hunter with his rifle in the process of taking some wild boar for dinner. In the background is wooden lodge and a tree that appears to be loaded with fruit.
There are more delicate colorful flowers knitted into the scene as well.
In short, I have never seen another example like it. Compare to other European sweaters in regards to the typical simple artwork on modern mass produced sweaters and use the ebay photo zoom feature to appreciate the detail and compare all others with this one.
There is no comparison.
There are no defects to disclose and from all appearances it does not seem to have ever been worn.
It is that nice and that clean. This nice piece came from an estate sale, and as such explains my lack of knowledge of its history.
