    A Russian Imperial Bronze Table Medal Commemorating the Imperial Train Disaster at Borki, designed by Avraam Avenirovich Grilikhes (1849-1912), 1888.
    The
    Borki train disaster
    occurred on October 29, 1888, near
    Borki
    station in the former
    Kharkov Governorate
    of the
    Russian Empire
    (present-day
    Kharkiv Oblast
    of
    Ukraine
    ), 295 kilometers south of
    Kursk
    , when the
    imperial train
    carrying
    Tsar
    Alexander III of Russia
    and his family from
    Crimea
    to
    Saint Petersburg
    derailed
    at high speed. Twenty-one people died at the scene and two later, and many others were injured. According to the official version of events, Alexander held the collapsed roof of the royal car on his shoulders while his family escaped the crash site uninjured.
    Circular, the obverse depicting the imperial family above the inscription in Old Slavonic Cyrillic script reading: In Memory of the Miraculous Rescue of the Imperial Family 17 October 1888 ), the reverse with Psalm 91:11 in Russian: For He shall give His angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways above an angel and kneeling figure of Mother Russia, the truncation signed in Cyrillic Grilikhes-Son, and with a detailed scene of the train disaster in the lower quadrant. Diameter 3 1/2 inches (89 mm).
    The medal is 90 mm in diameter, 8 mm thick, made of bronze and it weights 350 gramm.  It comes with the storage box.
