Description
Westinghouse Electric & Mfg Co portable watthour electric test meter. Style 149742.A S/N 227076. I have researched and can find one that was not as old and box severely cracked sold 10 years ago on ebay. Other research shows some also not as old in a couple museums.Story on this meter is a neighbor of mine in his 50's, this was his Grandfathers who worked for the power company in the early 1900's. Was a meter reader per se.
The marking of CP CO I believe refers to Carolina Power Co. - This unit was marked as seen on box condemned on 11/1/1935 otherwise removed from service to the company.
Dimensions are 8.5"W x 7"H x 8"D - I do not have exact weight but I know is over 10lbs probably pushing 20lbs
http://storage.cloversites.com/undergroundoverheadmeteringschool/documents/Watthour%20Meter%20master%20serial%20no%20list.pdf - My research took me to this site which shows S/N listings and best I can tell according to this site - this unit was manufactured in 1903
The plate on the side has some interesting patent dates that I believe date in the late 1800's
I am guessing that this unit is not functional but I have no way to know how to tell. Also appears that a strap that once existed for carry is no longer attached. Due to age I cannot make any guarantees on this item and therefore cannot accept any returns. The item in the pics is exactly what you are getting sold "as is"
Otherwise a nice piece of history on a rare item that is most likely impossible to find.
